The problem
Spreadsheets, email threads and off-the-shelf tools stop fitting the way you work, but a custom build sounds slow and expensive.
What I do about it
I build custom web apps in Next.js, starting with an MVP when the idea needs proving. AI speeds up the coding; every part is still read, tested and made maintainable.
A web app is not a website with extra pages. It has users, logins, data and rules, and it has to keep working when all four change at once. This service covers what a brochure site cannot do: client portals, booking and quoting systems, internal tools, dashboards and admin panels, built on Next.js, React and a proper database.
A lot of this work is now vibecoding: I describe the behaviour I want and AI writes much of the code, which makes a small budget stretch a long way. The speed is real, but it is not the whole job. Every part still gets read, tested and shaped into something maintainable, because generated code that nobody understands becomes someone's problem six months later. You can start with an MVP to prove the idea, or go straight to a production build with authentication, backups and monitoring in place. The same person is accountable either way.

Define what it must do
Write down the users, the screens and the rules before any code. Most wasted budget comes from building the wrong thing quickly.

Decide honestly whether this is a test of an idea or a system people will depend on. The two need different foundations and different budgets.

Build with AI, review by hand
Vibecoding gets the first version moving fast. Every part is then read, tested and refactored before it goes anywhere near real users.

Databases, logins, payments and the tools you already use, wired up and tested against your actual data rather than samples.

Why hire an expert
Architecture
A generated site works on day one. An expert decides how it is structured so that adding a page, a language or a payment in a year does not mean rebuilding it.
Security
Forms, logins, API keys and third-party scripts are where sites get hurt. Someone has to review them line by line and keep updating them.
Accountability
When something breaks, you want one named person who answers the phone and fixes it, not a prompt history.
